This promted an interesting discussion elsewhere in the GREAT DEBATE of Science vs Religion. Couldn't resist putting in my opinion.
"Too many people focus on the differences in world religions. Find the similarities and you may also find the truth."
Which caused a call for clarification of what I meant.
"I was refering to a more "spiritual" truth. I agree that "scienctific" methods are a great way to get there, which is why I suggested looking at the similarities of religions. If all religions and cultures have a set of legends, stories and beliefs that are the same, then the truth of how our current religions and cultures devoloped will be there. Only when there is a common "spiritual" truth can we stop war and focus on improving the lives of all with science."
Which lead to a much longer discussion and so I put my suggestion in a more scientific format.
"My point in posting wasn't to discuss wheather or not there is a God. My point was that I do not belive that it is stupid too express that belief. A large portion of our world's history involve wars that use the words "infidel" or "heathen" to justify attacking the other side. If there is a common source or basis for all religions then the true reasons behind wars "greed", "power" and "population control" can be curbed. If you do not attack a person or nation's system of belief then you have removed the (for a normally peaceful man) reason for war. Most people want to live, and love. Eat, drink, work and play. We want life to be easier for our children and our grandchildren. Scientific acheivements are hard to come by when people are out there wondering where the next meal will come from or if their whole village will be wiped out because what they "believe" is "stupid". My hypothesis is "If you remove religious bigotry from the world then those who foster that bigotry will be exposed and can be removed from power". This is possible and the probable outcome will be a better world for ALL."
So now I post here in order to prompt even more debate. I want to know what the Newsvine community thinks.
